Traveling on Holiday

The main road (High Ways or Free Ways) infrastructure in South Africa is of a high standard. This makes traveling on holiday from destination to destination an easy task. Some of the secondary roads are less comfortable to use but you will see a lot of road works on theses as we work to restore them. While on holiday it is wise to enquire before leaving for your next destination if you are traveling the correct route. The locals are always keen to assist. We drive on the left hand side of the road. Public transport is mabey abit more challanging than in most places in the world but it is possible to catch a taxi to most places. We also have busses that run between the major cities at an affordable price. Should you like to catch a plane to your holiday destination then you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality and efficiency of the air ports in major cities. There are many car rental companies based at all the major airports. In conclusion a self drive holiday is very possible and can be more exciting than a rigid tour.

Type of weather

South Africa offers great holiday weather all year round. The landscape of the country and the cold Benguela current of the west coast and the warm Mozambique current of the east coast have a moderating effect on the climate, which varies widely.  Despite regional differences, the winters are predominantly mild and snow is limited to the high mountain peaks.

The Western Cape has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and a winter rainfall.  On average, cape temperatures in summer vary between 14 degrees C and 25 deg C, and in winter from 6 deg C to 17 deg C.  The Cape interior, the Free State and Gauteng have hot summers (temperatures regularly exceed 30 deg C) with afternoon thunder- showers and cold, frosty winters.

KwaZulu Natal has a subtropical climate with high humidity in the summer months. Mpumalanga and the Lowveld have mild winters.
